Gender-affirming Pediatric Care Toolkit (2022). Resource Type: Toolkit. Description: Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) children, adolescents, and their families are increasingly seeking out pediatricians and mental health providers for education, treatment, and services related to gender-affirming care. TGD children, adolescents, and their families are looking for care that is welcoming, affirming, and safe. However, due to a lack of training and information about providing gender-affirming care, providers may feel unprepared to offer this level of care to children and adolescents in TGD communities. This toolkit is a curated list of resources created by the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center to aid medical and behavioral health providers who are either starting on their journey in gender-affirming care for TGD youth or are looking to refresh or further their learning and understanding of creating safe, supportive, affirming health care experiences for TGD children and adolescents. Increasing Health Care Enrollment for Survivors of Domestic Violence (2022). Resource Type: Toolkit. Description: People who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) have unique health care needs, making insurance that covers comprehensive medical and behavioral health benefits all the more critical. Community health centers play an important role in helping survivors enroll in coverage and receive quality primary health and oral health care services. A special enrollment period for survivors makes enrollment possible across the year with additional provisions to make coverage more affordable for survivors. MLP in Health Centers Guide Webinar Series Part 4: The Medical-Public Defender Partnership (2022). Resource Type: Archived Webinar. Description: Since its founding in the early 1990s, the MLP approach has evolved to incorporate criminal legal in addition to civil legal needs. One of the first MLPs focused on criminal legal needs emerged in Rhode Island, where health centers have partnered with the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office to collaborate around preserving their shared clients’/patients’ health. Key Provisions in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act: A Summary for the HCH Community (2022). Resource Type: Publication. Description: On June 25, 2022, The President signed into law the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major piece of gun legislation since the 1994 Gun Violence Prevention Act. While the law covers domestic violence offenders, expanded background checks, and red flag laws, it also increases funding for mental health services, school safety, crisis intervention programs, and violence prevention measures. Healing Centered Approaches to Screen and Intervene for Social Determinants of Health Including Intimate Partner Violence (2022). Resource Type: Publication. Description: Many health centers have systems that maintain SDOH screening tools or have related policies in place, some of which touch on IPV. Our newly developed tool complements these other SDOH screens/policies by offering guidance on our evidence-informed CUES model and how to couple IPV universal education (UE) before any screening is conducted.
